Originally from the village of Charnay, located in the Golden Stones region of Beaujolais, Maxime Barrot was first introduced to us through his wines during a tasting at Yvon and Jules Métras’ estate. His journey led him to join the Métras team in 2019, an experience that speaks to the quality of his work. Before that, Maxime immersed himself in the winemaking culture of his region. During a trip to Chile, he met Roberto Henriquez, a protégé of Antoine Luyt, who himself had been trained by the late Marcel Lapierre. This meeting was a pivotal moment, deepening his passion and prompting him to pursue winemaking. After spending 18 months at the Bret Brothers (Domaine de la Soufrandière in Burgundy), where he learned vinification techniques and biodynamic practices, Maxime honed his skills further at the Métras estate in 2020. His many discussions about great Gamay terroirs and the artisanal rigor of traditional winemaking were invaluable.In 2020, Maxime began cultivating his first vines, and his first juices were produced in 2021, marking his fourth vintage. It was then that he truly embraced his role as a winemaker. Since 2024, he has been working 4.3 hectares of land in the southern Beaujolais, including plots in Lachassagne, Charnay, and Rivolet. 2024 will also mark the end of his négociant activities, as he focuses on promoting the villages of Saint Germain and Sainte Paule—two rich but still underappreciated terroirs.
