Winemaking couple Bárbara Requejo and Guzmán Sánchez released their first vintage of Las Pedreras in 2021. Their project is based on three hectares of old-vine Grenache farmed organically in Villanueva de Ávila, along with century-old Albillo Real and Tempranillo from Bárbara’s hometown of Roa de Duero. Planted at elevations between 850 and 1,200 meters, their vineyards benefit from a cool climate and slow ripening, yielding wines of finesse and balance. The name “Las Pedreras” is a tribute to the Pico Las Pedreras, a peak in the Sierra de Gredos, where Grenache vines thrive in sandy, granitic soils. Before joining forces, Bárbara gained experience at top estates including Château Haut-Brion in Bordeaux and Pierre Péters in Champagne, before becoming technical director at Soto-Manrique in Gredos, where she worked with a range of Grenache terroirs around Cebreros. Guzmán, originally trained as a chef, worked at El Almacén in Ávila and Zalacaín in Madrid before returning home to open his own restaurant, La Querencia.
