Sandhi Wines is the result of a meeting between two passionate minds, Rajat Parr and Sashi Moorman, united by the desire to craft elegant wines that express the soul of their terroir. Their focus: the Sta. Rita Hills on California’s coastline, where marine soils and cool Pacific breezes create a perfect environment for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Since 2009, Sandhi has explored this narrow stretch along Santa Rosa Road with one goal in mind—bottling freshness, finesse, and natural energy. In the cellar, nothing is added or removed. Fermentations are spontaneous, aging is gentle in oak or concrete, depending on the grape, always with the intention to let the site speak for itself. Deeply inspired by the wines of Burgundy and pioneers like Au Bon Climat, Sandhi crafts precise, small-batch wines made to elevate the table. For nearly 15 years, the philosophy hasn’t changed: working with responsibly farmed grapes, keeping interventions minimal, and celebrating the singular beauty of California’s coastal terroirs. It’s a collective effort, with hundreds of hands involved, from vineyard to bottle. Alongside Sandhi stands Phelan Farm, offering a poetic and rigorous vision of wine. Located in Cambria near the Pacific, this historic family farm was planted by Greg Phelan in 2007. A chance encounter with Rajat Parr a decade later led to a new chapter, centered on a deeply natural farming model rooted in permaculture, biodynamics, and regenerative practices. Every decision here supports life and balance: no tilling, no sulfur or copper sprays, homemade compost from grape skins and animal manure, plant-based vineyard treatments, and a strong focus on microbial health. Grapes are harvested by hand, fermented with native yeast, mostly whole cluster, and aged in neutral oak. Bottling is done by gravity, without sulfur additions, filtration, or fining. The wines are pure, energetic, and uncompromising—true reflections of their wild coastal origin.
